Viru

Our Story

A house built on relationships — across mountains and across borders.

Viru comes from the Virú Valley on Peru's northern coast, one of the places often linked to the origin of the name 'Peru.' We chose it because it points back: to provenance, to the people who make what we sell, and to the diplomatic work of carrying culture well.

Co-founder

Jose Castillo

Jose holds a Master's in Public Diplomacy. He spent his career building bridges between institutions across Peru and the United States, and now turns that craft toward something more personal — a brand that introduces American homes to the craft of Peru and the Andes.

He leads partnerships, sourcing trips, and the long-term dream of a home in Los Angeles.

Co-founder

Crystal Wallstrom

Crystal is an artist.

She leads design and the pantry, and she'll be sourcing in Ecuador.

What we are building

A phased plan, with the long view in mind.

Online first. Then pop-ups and farmers markets. Then, one day, a home in Los Angeles. Every step lets us deepen relationships with our makers and our community.

  1. Phase 01

    Online house

Stories from our sourcing trips, then a small first collection.

  2. Phase 02

    Pop-ups and farmers markets

Bring the goods into rooms. Test offerings, meet our community in person.

  3. Phase 03

    A home in Los Angeles

Our long-term dream: a Viru Andean House in Los Angeles — a place to experience ancient Peru through objects, food, and gathering, with a café and Andean imports.
